Reflecting on the women depicted by Marianne Breslauer, critics would universally agree that they are strong, independent, “new” women. Meanwhile, the artist herself described them as “very feminine”. Which is the truth here? One of the most respected photographers of the Weimar Republic, Marianne Breslauer was rediscovered in the 1980s, and immediately received recognition from the public. At this exhibition created in her honour, the focus will be on the photos from 1933, when Marianne travelled to Spain and Andorra in the company of Annemarie Schwarzenbach, a writer and her friend.
