Women of Catalonia are ahead of Spanish and European women in life expectancy, as concluded in the State of Health Report of 2016, which was presented by the government.
Thus, a typical Catalan grandmother lives safe and well the average of 86.1 years, while the other aged women – 85. Climate, healthy food, walking and no stress – perhaps these are the elements of a formula of women’s longevity in the region.
It is curious how things are different with Catalan men: they live an average of 80.5 years and take only the sixth place in the rating of the EU countries. However, even with this result, life expectancy in Catalonia exceeds the average level in the country.
It is not surprising that the locals are very optimistic about their physical and emotional state: 83.3% of respondents believe that they have a good or very good or even excellent health. However, the government does not intend to stop here: it is planned to increase the standard of living of the low-income Catalans, as well as to «reduce the social inequalities that affect the health of the population».
